Title: Favourite Christian Authors
Description: fiction and non-fiction

For awhile I wouldn't read any Christian fiction because it seemed pretty lame, lol.
However lately I've discovered some authors that I really enjoy.

Randy Alcorn writes both fiction and non-fiction, though I've only read his fiction stuff. "Deadline" I picked up because it was in the used section, cheap, and was about a journalist. I discovered that Alcorn is an awesome story-teller, great attention to detail, knowledgeable about his subject matter, and with current subjects. He also has an interesting and amazing view of heaven.
I'm into his second book in the series, entitled "Dominion", mostly about race relations, and it's really opened my eyes.
These books aren't for the faint of reading though, lol...they are big and mostly "non-skimmable" for those of us just wanting the good parts...it's all a 'good part'.
The mystery and intrigue combined with intelligent writing reminds me a lot of John Grisham.

My two other favourite writers right now are Debra White Smith, who has a series all based on the Jane Austin books, up-to-date with a Christian emphasis. Rather cool. The "First Impressions" one is the best.

A new favourite is Linda Lee Chaikin. I'm into her "East of the Sun" series...she has several...and it's about Africa and diamonds and missionaries, very cool.

My favourite non-fiction Christian authors include Oswald Chambers, CS Lewis, Rick Warren.

Anybody read any of these authors? Do you have your own favourite Christian writers?

The only one of those authors that I have ever read is CS Lewis...who I do really like. I have jotted down the names so I can keep an eye out for some of the other authors you mentioned. Thanks.

I like Terri Blackstock...she writes Christian mysteries; Lori Wick's pretty good and Lauraine Snelling has some really good books about the American West and also about the German immigrants that settled in the Dakota territory.

Cool, Ms Patti, thanks. Like Denise, I will jot those names down. Except Lori Wick, I've read a couple of hers and they aren't really to my taste.

Denise, if you like CS Lewis, you will really like Alcock, he is heavily influenced by Lewis' writing.

I like Janette Oke. I read her "Seasons of the Heart" series. It was really good. I also like Frank Peretti. He's kinda scary. I'd say he's the Christian version of Stephen King.

Oh, yeah, I like Frank Perretti too...except I didn't think his last one about the apes was up to his usual standards.

I didn't care for the first Lori Wick ones I read, but I've found a few I like. They're not real deep reading that's for sure...lol

My favorite Christian Author is Max Lucado from Texas. I only wish I could meet him and be able to attend a worship Service with Him one day... this side of Heaven.

I just finished a FANTASTIC!!! book by Terri Blackstock called The Gifted ...I would recommend it to everyone!...I finished it in one day!

quartetlover - April 17, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
One day?? I've never been able to do that. That's why I can't give you my Left Behind series yet. You'd catch up to me too quickly. :D

Okay, I'm gonna have to read her. The Debra White Smith books are like that, if I have a day to myself, I can read one in a day...

I am a fan of the Left Behind Series

Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins.

I also like Frank Peretti and Francine Rivers she has a book called "Redeeming Love" This book is kinda like an updated version of Gomer and Hosea i really recommend this book

I enjoyed Left Behind but I almost felt like they ran out of steam by the time they got to "Glorious Appearing"...it was almost...an anti-climax, somehow...weird how that would be...
