Title: Devotional: Week Of 4/16/2007
Description: I John 4:13

I John 4:13- "Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his spirit."

Every believer, at the point of salvation, is indwelt with the Holy Spirit. What this means is that the Holy Spirit dwells (or lives) in the heart of the believer. (Don't confuse this with the filling of the Holy Spirit. That is something different entirely.) This is one of the ways that God keeps the promise He made in the last part of Hebrews 13:5- "...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

However, just because Christians have the Holy Spirit living inside of them doesn't mean that they are following His leading. Sadly, many Christians ignore the Holy Spirit's leading. This grieves and saddens Him, but He will not force Christians to follow Him against their free will. He wants them to follow Him because they want to and because they love Him. Herein lies my point.

The Holy Spirit was given to Christians as a guide. Therefore, God meant for us as Christians to live Spirit-led lives. We are to follow where the Spirit leads and do what the Spirit says. You see, we know we're saved due to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. However, others won't know we're Christians unless our lives show it. And our outward lives won't show it unless we allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit. If the indwelling of the Holy Spirit doesn't affect the outward life, then something is wrong.

Are you allowing the Spirit to lead you daily? Are you submitting to Him? Don't ignore Him or "shove Him in a corner". Follow Him and experience the blessings!
