Title: Hit or History Classics
Description: Week #56

JohnCBoy - May 14, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
Sorry I missed you folks last week! Mickey made me forget. :(

Welcome to Hit or History Classics!

Today, we are going to remember two great spirituals. These became classic performances for the groups that staged them. Here are your choices:

"Trouble in My Way" by the Dixie Echoes (the "hey Father" song)
and
"Ezekial Saw De Wheel" by Gold City

Please vote for your favorite.

Thanks for playing Hit or History Classics.

Ezekial...I still remember the faces Tim Riley would make...always wondered if it hurt after awhile, lol...

I'm not trying to influence "votes" here, but if you never saw Dale Shelnut sing "Trouble in My Way", then you missed one of the greatest performances in gospel music history.

Dale was the epitome of a gospel music entertainer, and "Trouble in My Way" was his sugar stick. I hope you'll be able to hear him singing this on the Southern Styles Show this month. Not to undermine Gold City, but this is a gospel music classic!

I like Ezekiel saw the wheel in my way=trouble. ;)

JohnCBoy - May 14, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
So, Q-man. . . are you here with the answer or are you just part of the problem as ususal?

quartet-man - May 14, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Part of the problem of course. You need a problem for there to be a solution. Besides, I am part of the solution elsewhere. It is a nice change of pace. :P

I can't comment on this one because I have only heard Ezekiel Saw The Wheel (on the Gold City Live lp). If I can hear the other one I could comment on which I prefered to hear, but as far as watching I cannot comment on either one.

"Trouble in My Way" by the Dixie Echoes and Dale Shellnut! I was not privileged to see it in person; however the video is wonderful!

I really loved Gold City, but I've got to go with Dale on
this one. WHAT A CLASSIC! Including the set-up
by Joe Whitfield. Dale was a great singer, a great
comedian, and a great guy.
