Title: When a group disbands
Description: how much should they tell the fans?

CanChik - May 17, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
Whenever we hear of a group disbanding, or a person leaving a group to go someplace else, we always want to know why.

How much is it fair for the fans to know?

Are we required to be told everything just because these people are on a public stage?

Is it fair to be told nothing?

Or how about the old fall-back, "they are quitting to spend more time with their family"?

That's tough. A human emotion often is to wonder why. When someone invests their time, money, loyalty, and a piece of their lives with a group, and brings them into their homes they feel a bit of ownership. That doesn't give us a right to own them and it doesn't make us their best friend. However, sometimes a relationship is developed for those who attend a lot of concerts and do things for them. Even in the entertainment industry where people are even less close to these people (whereas in ministries people often pray for the group which makes the emotional connection more), there is still some degree of the feeling of entitlement. (Especially with TV stars because we bring them in our homes regularly.) This is made worse by all the TV news shows who give glimpses to us. Of course, some stars use this to their advantage, but then cry foul when the negative consequences of this are realized.

So, with all that said, it is hard to tell. On one hand I hate being given stock lines. On the other, I hate when it is swept under the carpet and acted like if you ignore it it will go away. I think that if a group has sent out mailings and such wanting their fans to be more involved in their ministry they should keep the fans more up to date when these things happen. However, we do not have a right to know every little detail. Just let us know a change is happening, don't lie to us, and let us know the reason if it will not offend someone or make you or them look bad.

I guess the easier thing to do is for groups to just not break up. ;)

Oh, no. This is dangerously close to being a solution instead of a problem. ;)

Oh, goodness no, the last thing you can post on a message board is a solution, Kew-man, lol....

It does bother me when fans cry and scream and holler because they didn't know about something the moment it happened and they think they need to know every detail. Especially if there is a relationship breakdown. You'd think that with what should be a largely Christian audience, we should have more compassion for the hurting instead of shooting them as we tend to do.

I don't like the stock answers either, however. I mean, why even bother. Why not just say "so and so is no longer with our group" period. Only be careful how you say it. When a staff member left our company not so long ago and I told one of his clients he "was no longer with us", the guy thought the staff member had died....not a good thing....

I am disbanding. I will no longer be associated with myself in any way shape fashion or form. I will be coming off the road to spend more time with my family. In my absence, I will be touring in my place. Please keep me and myself in your prayers. Thank you.

Does any of this have to do with a blind date? B)

depends on whether or not a scandal could ensue, resulting in massive cd sales

VirginiaJoe - May 20, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
I want my share of the royalties. After all, I did "break" the news. :doggie:

quartet-man - May 20, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Lol, funny posts guys. I want the record to show that I was not really part of the problem here on this thread, but more of a part of the solution. :)

JDubya, is it true that you who were first on the road and he that took your place had decided to become a duet, but you were beside yourself with worry over being overshadowed by he? ;)

CanChik - May 21, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
I'm lost.... :P

Does this remind anyone else of Me, Myself and Irene?

JDubya - May 23, 2007 11:12 AM (GMT)
We have no further comment at this time.

JDubya - May 23, 2007 11:16 AM (GMT)
While I have said there was no further comment, myself would like to speak my piece on this matter. It is a shame that I have purchased PA equipment, studio time, and product by spending money from the account in my name. I never agreed to this and myself took it upon me to do it. Until our costs are recouped I have no choice but to continue. In addition, myself will continue until the Lord calls me home. I have not been very cooperative with me in this endeavor but we are assured victory will prevail. I appreciate your prayers for me and myself and we all struggle with this decision. There will be no further press releases on this matter...unless there are further press releases on this matter...in which case there will be further press releases on this matter.
