Title: Songwriters

Who are some of the songwriters you enjoy?
When I listen to lyrics written by Gerald Crabb, I am struck by his openess and humility. After reading some of his background, I think so many Christians can identify with his songs.

Here is a picture of my favorite song writer. I've learned so much from Mosie Lister. Our discussions have helped me so much when I write historical accounts of gospel music pioneers.

My favorite songwriter has also become a good friend of mine in the past year or so. Neil Enloe(formerly of the Couriers)has always written songs that go a little deeper than the average gospel song, and his lyrics speak to the daily concerns of believers and non-believers alike. Plus, musically, his songs tend to be a bit more sophisticated than most gospel songs.
In our numerous discussions, he has not only taught me a great deal about musical structure, but about his lyrical philosophy and inspiration. Needless to say, I'm grateful for his time, insights, and friendship.

There are many, many songwriters for whom I have tremendous respect. Some of them wrote maybe one song that really touched me, and there are others who wrote many songs.
Many songwriters seem to write great songs, but they are "here for a season", then gone from the scene. Mosie Lister's career has endured through the years more than any other that I know of, and his impact on gospel music is immeasurable. I would have to say Mosie is my favorite songwriter.
Thanks for posting the picture of you with this great man, John.

My favorite songwriters...........
1- Mosie Lister.......has written more songs that have stood the test of time than anyone I know. I love Mosie Lister songs.
2- Bill Gaither.......is just a notch behind Mosie, in my opinion. He has written some great songs, as well.
3- Dottie Rambo....her songs, and she has written hundreds.........include some of my favorites.
One of my favorite things to do, when I am in a church waiting for a concert to begin.........is to leaf through the pages of the church hymnal for songs that I use to love to sing. The name that seems to come up more often than anyone........Fanny Crosby. That lady, who died in 1915, wrote some classic church hymns, including these.......
Blessed Assurance
Rescue The Perishing
Praise Him, Praise Him
Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Savior
Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home

I know most of you haven't heard many of Rebekah's songs, but in my opinion she has a true GOD given gift to write songs and has written some of the most beautiful I've ever heard...you'll be hearing more of hers in the future...

I like a lot of the McRae songs, whether written by one sister or both...
Several of the writers mentioned here I appreciate too, especially Gerald Crabb and Dottie Rambo.
I like some of Phil Cross's songs, and Rodney Griffin; and yes Dee Gaskin (Come Morning was hers I believe).

Hidee Y'all,
Of course, I love and respect Mosie as probably one of the greatest of all times. Four of my other favorites are "Smilin'" Joe Roper, "Big Chief" James Wetherington, "Whitey" Gleason", and Henry Slaughter. Joe wrote "Sinners Plea" which is my absolute favorite Gospel song.

My favorite song writer is Dottie Rambo because her songs always speak to some situation in my life. "In the Valley He Restoreth My Soul," "I Just Came to Talk with You, Lord," "Too Much to Gain to Lose," "I've Never Been This Homesick Before," "Remind Me, Dear Lord," and many others have challenged, comforted, and strengthen me in my walk with Christ.
Some other writers that rate highly with me are Bill Gaither, Mosie Lister, J.D. Sumner, and Tommy Atwood. Each of these men have written music that has greatly blessed me.
