Title: Devotional: Week Of 8/20/2007
Description: Daniel 6:10-11, 22

Chadley - August 21, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
Daniel 6:10-11, 22
10. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11. Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
22. My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions'mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Daniel was a man of faithfulness and courage. He was not going to let anything or anyone keep him from doing what God had told him was right to do. Even if it cost him his life, he was going to be obedient to his Lord.

His life is exactly what this particular situation almost cost him. He knew the other leaders didn't like him and were out to get him. When he heard about the decree that the leaders convinced King Darius to sign, he immediately recognized it for what it was- a trap to get him in trouble. It would have been easy for him to cease praying for the 30 days of the decree. I don't think many people would have blamed him if he had. However, he didn't give in or compromise. He boldly continued to pray, and God blessed and protected him because of his faithfulness. The lions couldn't harm him!

What an example Daniel sets for us! And yet, consider what little it takes for many Christians to abdicate their responsibilities. We make excuses and rationalize things far too easily. God needs more faithful and courageous believers to do His work, and it's time that we committed ourselves to be just that. If we don't, then we are hindering God's work. Is that what we want?
