Micah 6:8- "He hath shown the, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"
Isn't it wonderful that God has laid out for us clearly in Scripture what He expects of us? We don't have to wonder or guess. All we have to do is search His Holy Word.
First of all, we have the command to "do justly". In other words, we are to be people of our word. We are to fulfill our obligations, give others what is their due, etc. This is part of our outward testimony. Secondly, we have the command to "love mercy". Mercy is defined simply as "kindness". We are to show kindness to others at every opportunity, for that is also a wonderful testimony to a lost and dying world. Finally, there is the command to "walk humbly with thy God". We must put him at the top of our priority list and ourselves at the bottom. Our focus should be on pleasing and honoring Him. Everything that we are should be subject to His will and His Word. We should be obedient servants, and that is an impossibility without humility.
These commands seem like simple things, but they are much deeper than most people think. A lot goes into these things: faith, integrity, obedience, love, humility, etc. This is just a sampling of what all goes into obeying these commands, but suffice to say that the entire list would read as an accurate description of what Christianity really is. I think that this verse imparts to us the responsibility of examining our lives to see how we measure up. "Do justly", "love mercy", and "walk humbly with thy God"- do these things describe your life?
very good devotional Pastor :D
What would our World be like if everyone lived by these standards, what about our country, our state, our community, our neighborhood, and lastly but most importantly our homes and our lives.
thanks for the reminders of what we are all expected to look, act and work like.
