I Corinthians 15:58- "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."
This verse is a reminder of something that no servant of God should ever lose sight of. If you recall, in last week's devotional I made the comment that God scatters verses of encouragement all throughout Scripture for us to find when we need them. Well, this is another of those verses.
Servants are to be "steadfast". This means to be faithful, committed, and dependable. They aren't stopped by obstacles- they overcome them. Servants are also to be "unmovable". They are to do what is right without compromise. They don't move from Scriptural commands or principles. Finally, servants are to be "always abounding in the work of the Lord". Serving God should be a lifetime thing. They are always to be looking for opportunities and ways to serve, and when they find them they should wholeheartedly and enthusiastically take advantage of them.
I know that this seems like a tall order. Some would look at this daunting description and become discouraged at all that's required. However, look at the last phrase of the verse. This is our impetus to keep going- nothing we do for the Lord will be in vain. God will always reward faithfulness and a willing heart. What we do for Him will always be worth something. Serving Him is never a waste of time!
Keep this in mind as you serve God throughout your life. Hold to this nugget of truth when the way gets difficult.
