Title: Almost Thursday trivia
Description: no correct answers

Folks, normally I have an answer in mind when I post my questions. However, today, I don't have a particular answer in mind.
What is your favorite gospel LP/CD cover? What cover art comes to mind when you think of "favorites"?
I have several. I guess my favorite is "Through the States with the Statesmen".
What are your thoughts?

Sorry I can't post pictures of the covers but my #1 choice is Light by the Oak Ridge Boys (1972) on the roof of a building with a door frame. The back cover with the band on the roof on steps is also effective.
Second choice is Black and White by the Singing Americans (1985) with everything in Black and White except the name of the group and Mike English's bow-tie which are in red.

Covered in warmth by the Happy Goodmans!
I'd post a pic if I knew how! Oh well!

My favorite album cover is framed and hanging on the wall in my living room! It is "A Gospel Concert by the Statesmen Quartet". It is the album that was recorded live in Long Beach (which is what I usally call the album). Of course, it is by the Sensational Statesmen Quartet. I simply think it is the ultimate Quartet in the ultimate Quartet poses! I never had the privilege of seeing that Quartet (Rosie, Jake, Doy, Chief, Hovie) in person since I was not born until 1963. However, even as a child, that album cover made me feel like I was right there sitting on the front row of a concert in a major auditroium! I literally have the picture memorized!

I've always like the Plainsmen's Lonely Street album cover. Those suits are in a class of their own.

I like the Prophets on Sing, or the Oak Ridge Boys "Performance".

I also really like the album cover for the Jake Hess and the Imperials album "He Was a Preaching Man."

I like that album cover as well, Gayla. It makes me want to go to ebay and see if I can get a copy of that album. By the way, I had a church member give me two treasures a few weeks ago. He gave me the Statesmen "Out West" album and the Blackwood Brothers "Paradise Island." They were both in good condition.

Isn't there one of the ton of fun hawking a trailer house?
The Statesmen have to have been the most creative with their album covers.
I have the cover to the Statesmen Album thats in gold leaf, its in excellent shape, but there was no record in it!!
Isn't it the same record that is in the Hits Album with Jimmy Carter on the front?

Plainsmen fans and historians,
Please help me out on this one. Who were the members of the group on Lonely Street. I know that Rusty Goodman was singing bass and Thurman Bunch was singing tenor. Was Jack Mainord on Lead and Howard Welborn on baritone? Who was playing piano for the group at this time? Thanks for any help you can give.

I think that is Larry Denham on the cover, but that don't mean he was playing the Piano.
Singers were:
Low Harmony - Rusty Goodman (this was just before they got a real bass singer).
1st, 2nd and 3rd tenors - Thurman Bunch, Howard Welborn and Jack Mainord.

Rusty used his suit to help make the cover to that Goodman album Stevenson likes so well.

You're welcome, stevenson. It was a joint effort. Norm found the picture and I figured out how to post it.
You'll soon learn that Mark and Ben hold Rusty's eventual Plainsmen replacement, Jay Simmons, in about as high regard as you do the Goodmans. ;)
