Title: Devotional: Week Of 10/22/2007
Description: Ephesians 4:1-3

Ephesians 4:1-3
1. I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2. With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;
3. Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Each of us has a calling on our lives from the Lord. For some, it's a call to full-time vocational service. For others, it's a call to serve HIm in other ways. But the bottom line is that we are all called to serve.

These verses challenge us to "walk worthy" of God's calling on our lives. This means that there is a certain way that a servant of the Lord is supposed to live and serve. Now, I am a firm believer that God doesn't give us a command without telling us how to correctly carry it out. A wise man once said, "It is never right to do wrong in order to do right." So, let's take a look at how Scripture says for us to "walk worthy".

First of all, we see the phrase, "with lowliness and meekness". We are to be humble, not thinking more highly of ourselves than we should. Christ is to be first in our lives. We should willingly and happily submit ourselves to His authority in all things. Next, we see the phrase, "with long-suffering". We are not to be quitters. We are to confidently press on for His honor and glory. Thirdly, we see the phrase, "forbearing one another in love". We should have enough love for others- saved and unsaved alike- to pray for them and to be patient wiht them as needed.

When we do these things, we are allowing ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the one thing that all Christians have in common, and I think we'd see more unity and peace among the brethren if more Christians would follow the Spirit's leading. This is what "walking worthy" is all about, and it's a challenge and command that we all need to embrace.
