Title: Tuesday trivia
Description: an unusual LP

On this surface, this looks like a normal LeFevres album. What is unusual about it?

I have this album and have read the liner notes but I am not sure of the answer. Seems like there was something in the liner notes and it's right on the tip of my tongue but I just can't remember. This getting old is a real bummer.

Was it something to do with Mylon?

WHO PUT THE "CANNAN" LABEL ON THIS ALBUM ?? ANOTHER TRICK QUESTION ??

JohnCBoy - October 30, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
Not a trick question. It was indeed a Canaan release. You can't find the "strangeness" from the liner notes, either.

THERE'S A "BREAK" IN THE SPELLING OF THEIR NAME ?

James Moore - October 30, 2007 02:40 PM (GMT)
I found "Songs Of Happiness" on the Sing, Stateswood and Bibletone labels. And "Happiness Is Gospel" on Cannan-but where is the album # on this picture-or is it my poor eyesight?

Didn't this album come out in the late '60s. I think one of my Dad's sisters may have owned this one. I remember visiting my grandparents and hearing this album being played on a hi-fi. It seems that one side had 6 songs and the other one had about 7 songs. Actually, it may have been an album that my dad owned but I ended up destroying. I'm more strict than my dad about letting the kids get near my records. I make sure my two-year-old stays away from them.

Interesting observations, folks, but you still haven't come up with "my" answer, but James is getting warm.

James, the Canaan LP is catalogue #CA-4603-LP

It looks like they did some airbrushing on Eva Mae's hair.

Was this the album they sold off the table to protest one of the labels or something like that?

Recently an artist told me he complained once to Hovie about not getting royalties from one of the labels and was contemplating suing to which Hovie replied:

"You'll have to get in line, Brother".

With all the different labels used to release and then re-release, I wonder how much of that was done without the artists ever getting paid?

musicmike - October 30, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
I did some research and found out that this album was given the catalogue # of CA-4603/AS-9603. It didn't have as many songs on it as I thought. I see that there were only 12 which would be six on each side. I agree with James in that I don't see a number on the album. Mark's observation makes a lot of sense. Is he correct?

Since the Sing label was their label, it not being on Sing, but on Caanan, makes it different from most.

Was the album # put on the back instead of the front cover?

Jetrec - October 30, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
This lp was originally released on the Bibletone label. Canaan records re-released this lp without the permission of the Lefevres. From what I've gathered, this lp was never sold by the Lefevres at their concerts. The Lefevres then went back into the studio and re-recorded the songs from the original Bibletone lp and released it on their own Sing label. The lp sold for $1.99.

And I agree with Jetrec! Cuz that's the story I was also told.

JohnCBoy - October 31, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
I think that's about the way I heard the story. The LeFevres hated the cover, too.

There was no doubt about the price of the new version of "Songs of Happiness". In bold print on the cover is $1.98.
