Title: No trivia today
Description: Fred Daniel passes away
JohnCBoy - November 6, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)
There will be no trivia today as we pause to remember the life of Fred Daniel. Fred had a long career with the Sunshine Boys and the Blue Ridge Quartet. He had been in poor health for the last few years. His wife, Hilda, passed away just a few weeks ago.
Please keep the Daniel family in your thoughts and prayers.

Fred has always been one of my southern gospel music heroes. It was a privilege to call him "friend". Rosielee and I will miss both he and Hilda..

Fred was the first tenor singer I ever saw perform and without doubt one of the greatest to ever open his mouth. He is one of my heroes and will be missed.

While I never was able to see him in person, I always loved the photo where he jumps up to sing the high note. I have some of the Sunshine Boys recordings with Fred on tenor. He was a very good tenor singer.

I first saw Fred in 1972 in a reunion of the Sunshine Boys and enjoyed him years later at the GOGR. Sad to think that three of those Sunshine Boys -- Fred, Ace and JD -- are gone with Eddie the only one left.
I think it is unfortunate that I haven't seen news of Fred's death on any of the SGM news sites or on the Singing News site.
Pleased to add that the Singing News site now has an item on Fred's death with a link to the GOGR fallen comrades site.

I echo the comments from others. What a classy guy! I always enjoyed seeing Fred performing at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. If anyone needed a tenor, Fred was there to help. I will miss him, too.

John, thank you so much for letting us know about Fred's passing. Yet another Quartet Legend has gone home to be with the Lord. Fred is one of the many Pioneers that I had the distinct pleasure of meeting due to Charlie Waller's Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. I loved to hear Fred sing, and he was an outstanding gentleman. I will miss Fred Daniels!
