I Chronicles 16:34-35
34. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
35. And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.
Here in the U.S., the Thanksgiving holiday arrives this Thursday. This usually causes peoples' thoughts to turn towards things like turkey (or ham), cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie, etc. (Can you tell what's on my mind? :D ) However, this holiday is also a reminder of the blessings of God that we have to be thankful for.
Think about it- we serve a God who is good and merciful. And because of His goodness and mercy, He has made a way of salvation for all mankind. He gave His only Son so that undeserving sinners like us could have the opportunity to spend eternity in Heaven with Him. He loves us that much! The greatest thing that we have to be thankful for, without a doubt, is salvation.
Are you guilty at times of taking your salvation for granted? I think that we all are. It's an easy trap to fall into. Let's take care not to allow Jesus' sacrifice for us on the cross to become anything less than the most special gift we have ever received. Let's live our lives in daily gratitude to Him.
