JohnCBoy - November 26, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
The group, Voice, was formed to sing for Elvis Presley. They also did some appearances on the gospel music stage including a set at the 1973 National Quartet Convention.
Before becoming known as "Voice", the group had two other short lived names.
What were they?

"Rangers" is correct. The other may be a little more difficult to come up with.
Kattie E - November 26, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
who are those "dudes" anyway?
stevenson - November 26, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
I know who the guys were but I only knew them as Voice Inc. I can't think of any other name.

You got it, Dean.
Yes, I'll post the "Distilled Gospel" picture but I don't think I'll post the "other" picture I have of Voice. Rob censored me the last time I tried to post it!
Voice had a lot of guts to put this picture on a gospel LP, but I think it was rather fitting for them.
:rollinglaughing:

Why would you be "censored" everything "questionable" is covered...at least in the print I've seen! <smile>!
JohnCBoy - November 26, 2007 05:46 PM (GMT)
Hey, I couldn't tell the Jimmy Jones story. Why would you think I could post that picture??

Two follow-up questions:
When Sherrill was putting together the trio with him and Tim Baty, who was Sherrill's first choice to be lead singer? When that fellow turned him down, Donnie was invited to join the group.
Which four backing musicians play on the Distilled album which the record describes as "100 Proof Gospel"? And no the song "He Turned the Water into Wine" is not on the album.
Mineola - November 26, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna guess Buddy Burton as the lead singer, and The Blackwood band as "musicians".
Norm - November 26, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
It wasn't Buddy Burton as potential lead but two former members of the Blackwoods band were among the backing musicians.
JohnCBoy - November 26, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Don't take Mineola too seriously, Norm. He thinks Buddy Burton is going to be the next president.
Mineola - November 26, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
What a great idea. Maybe a write-in candidate.
