Description: Sword and Shield

The Wills Family began the Sword and Shield record label in the late 1950s. This label was responsible for several very desirable and rare recordings. A few great gospel groups were on this label in addition to many up and coming singers. This label would appear to be the Skylite counterpart for groups west of the Mississippi.
What was the first recording released on the Sword and Shield label?

"Walk, Talk, and Sing"
Another really good song that I believe was published by them is "In the Shelter Of His Arms". Can someone confirm that they were the publishing company for that one?

Walk, Talk, and Sing may have been the first song they published, but what was the first album they released?

I'm thinking it was probably something by the Wills Family. The label did put out an album or two of old recordings by the Rangers Quartet but I don't know if they were released before the family album.

I am sure it wasn't their first album, but were the Jubil-Aires on Sword and Shield?
JohnCBoy - December 4, 2007 03:45 PM (GMT)
Jubil-Aires were on Stateswood and possibly a private label. Their EPs were on "Leader".

Interesting guesses, but nobody has the correct one yet.

Like I said earlier, it's not the Wills Family.

I believe the very first album on Sword & Shield was "The Light of the Day" by the Inspirationals. I think it was cut around 1958. Members were John Hall, Bob Wills, Jorey Walton, Roger McDuff, and Jimmy Doan.

You're right, Ben.
