Description: record labels

JohnCBoy - December 10, 2007 01:24 PM (GMT)
Wally Fowler and the original Oak Ridge Quartet recorded songs on many different labels. Here is a list of them. Your task is to determine which of these labels did NOT have in their discography.

Decca
Dot
Mercury
Songs of Faith
Columbia
Capitol
Blistosol
Dove

Cool picture. Some real greats in there.

musicmike - December 10, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
I think the answer is Mercury, Colombia, and Blistosol.

JohnCBoy - December 10, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
Thanks for trying, Mike. Actually, they recorded for Blistosol and Mercury, but the original group never recorded for Coulumbia although the later group did record for Columbia.

In addition to Columbia, there's another label the original Oaks never used. What is it?

Cool picture. Some real greats in there.

Can anyone identify the folks in this picture?

Mark Stephens - December 10, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)
Wally, Glenn Allred, Pat Patterson, maybe Bob Kitchens?

stevenson - December 10, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
Decca?

JohnCBoy - December 10, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
they did record on Decca. . . and Glen Allred is in that picture!

Jetrec - December 10, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Wally Fowler, Pat Patterson, Bob Weber, Joe Allred, Bob Prather, Livy Freeman, Glen Allred. Their most valuable lp is on the King label.

JohnCBoy - December 10, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
More "valuable" than their Capitol album?

Jetrec - December 10, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
I wasn't aware that they recorded an lp on the Capitol label.

I've heard they did a 10" LP on Capitol but I've never seen it.

yep

JohnCBoy - December 10, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
by the way, anybody gonna answer the question?

Jetrec - December 10, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
Sorry John I have never seen that lp before. I'll say they never recorded on Dot.

JohnCBoy - December 10, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Jeff, that's a rare bird.

The Oak Ridge Quartet recorded four sides on Dot in the mid 1950s.

RichL - December 11, 2007 02:35 AM (GMT)
John, I'm not too sure about Wally's recordings with the Oak Ridge but I do know that I have one album by him on Dove label but it's with the J D and The Stamps and is a tribute to Elvis

JohnCBoy - December 11, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
You're right, Rich. Wally recorded with the Stamps on Dove, but there were no Oak Ridge recordings on that label.

I think there's one more. . .
