John 17:1-3
1. These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2. As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
I said last week that our God is a giving God. Without a doubt, the greatest gift of all the gifts He gives is eternal life for those who accept Him as Savior. According to these verses, the Father gave the Son power over us so that He could give us that special gift. All we have to do to accept this gift is come to know Christ as our personal Savior.
However, there is something else here that we need to see. By definition, accepting Christ as Savior involves us giving our lives to Him. Does this describe the spirit of Christmas or what? The giving goes both ways! How greedy and selfish of us if we receive a gift from Him and have no desire to give a gift back to Him. Our love for Him should be all the motivation we need to give ourselves to Him, for His love for us was all the motivation He needed to give Himself for us.
Are you exhibiting and practicing the true spirit of Christmas this year?
