Title: The Plainsmen

VirginiaJoe - December 28, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
I got a CD for Christmas...........the cover is pink, and says:

The PLAINSMEN
"Gospel Music Pioneers"
"How Big Is God"

It was produced by Jimi Hall, and lists Phil Chesney, Michael Loprinzi and Jimi Hall as the group.....it was recorded at Duran Davis Studio, in White GA. The CD says copyright 2006.

Is this group the current version of the Plainsmen? I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but this is the song list....

For Thy Name Sake
Life Giver
Be Thou My Guiding Light
My Heavenly Father
I Want To See You In Heaven
Spend Me
Oh What A Friend
How Big Is God
His Grace Reaches Me
I've Decided
The One Who Knows Our Needs
Softly And Tenderly

Sounds like it could be the current group. Here's a picture of them from a few years ago. Jimi Hall and Phil Chesney are in the pic.

Recently had an old Word album' The Plainsmen Quartet" W-3016 and "Lonely Street" Sims 104 transferred to CD and have been listening to them in the car as I have been spending lots of time running back and forth helping out with my parents. These are two great albums particuarly like the bass of Joe B Davis on Hide me Rock of Ages and then of course the Lonely Street album is secular but is still great singing and some of the wildest suit coats ever. I have not been able to get pictures to download at this site or I would put the picture on here. Maybe when I get time I will talk to the site Admin. and see what I need to do about pictures.

Have not heard anything by any current group

I'm almost afraid to post this picture for fear that Mark and Ben may not be able to get any more work done today!

Anyway, I'll take my chances.

Here's your picture, Rich.

Few gospel recordings released today minister to me like this one.

Secular?

I always thought "Down By the Riverside" was about baptizing a blue eyed girl??

To quote the infamous line from the Carol Burnett sketch "Went With the Wind"..."I saw it in the window and just had to have it!" <smile>!

Who would have thought we'd move Wacky Wednesday to Friday??

:babyha:

Mark Stephens - December 28, 2007 06:00 PM (GMT)
Despite the suitcoats, I never thought I would see the words Plainsmen Quartet and pink covers in the same sentence.

Isn't that Howard W. in the back?

JohnCBoy - December 28, 2007 06:19 PM (GMT)
Yes it is, Mark.

RichL - December 28, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
Thanks for putting the picture on, I guess it got a few people smiling. In spite of the coats the singing is still great.

John, maybe Charles could get one of those coats on display at the SGM hall of Fame or not.

Those coats remind me of those double knit dresses women wore in the 70's and 80's....makes me shiver.....
