Among Hovie Lister's many accomplishments, he has claimed to be gospel music's first disc jockey.

Who was the sponsor on Hovie's first radio program heard on WCON in Atlanta, Ga.?

The Atlanta Constitution

According to a couple of books Hovie had a job at a radio station in Decatur on WEAS that proceeded his job at WCON that the Atlanta Constitution sponsored but I cannot find who or if he had a sponsor at this station.

They did have a sponsor for the radio program, and it wasn't the Atlanta Constitution. Seems like the Constitution owned the radio station.

Would that be the National Biscuit Company? Otherwise known as Nabisco??

JohnCBoy - January 26, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
The Statesmen had a television program sponsored by Nabisco, but this was several years prior to their TV show.

No it wasn't, but I know where you got that answer, Rich! It was a little earlier than Vitawine.

Yes they were owners of the station, as you said, I had an idea they might have sponsered Hovie`s program also- so I`ll keep looking.
