What former member of the Statesmen Quartet also was a member of the Sons of Song?

Hidee Y'all,
Yes, I'm up early! Taking my sister in law to chemo appt. Is the answer Les Roberson? I think that is right.

See what happens when you get up early? You get the questions correct!

I see your point, Ben. In fact, it crossed my mind when I asked the question.
First time I saw the Statesmen, he was singing lead with them. Jack Toney had left them and they hadn't hired Jim Hill at that point. Jim Hill was actually at that same concert with the Stamps.
I don't know if he would be considered a "member" of the Statesmen or just a "fill in".

I think Butler also sang with the Statesmen in about '78-79 during the transition from Jake and Chris to Hill and Burton. I believe there was an official 8x10 glossy that was made at this time with Butler. I was in Hawaii during these years and never saw this version of the Statesmen in person. Does this ring a bell, John?

Don Butler was a good singer, I wonder how many times the Statesmen used Don as a fill-in? The first time I ever saw Don Butler with the Statesmen was in the early 1960s, and he was filling in for Doy Ott. The Statesmen featured Don on a "Big Chief" song-"At The Roll Call."

The book "Happy Rhythm" does not give Butler credit for being a Statemen

Doesn't ring a bell, Ben. Could it have been Jack Toney you're thinking about? I know he had an "official" picture made with the group in that time frame . . . tuxedos, etc.

Yes, I have the tuxedo picture. Just seems like there was another one with Butler. He apparently was a sub anyway and not an official Statesmen, as Rich mentioned.
