James 1:5- "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

We all need wisdom. Nobody who has ever lived has ever had all the wisdom needed to live the right kind of life. And yet, it seems like we often try anything and everything but asking the Lord for wisdom. Is it any wonder that Proverbs tells us that pride leads to destruction?

This verse reminds us that we have a God who wants us to seek wisdom from Him. He wants us to depend on Him. He is not stingy or miserly with His wisdom- He gives it abundantly when we ask. And notice the phrase, " upbraideth not". This means that He will not criticize or ridicule us for needing His wisdom to handle what life throws at us. I sometimes wonder if this is why we seem to have problems seeking His wisdom, for it is nothing more than pride that causese us to try to live life in our own strength and wisdom.

Our lives would be much easier if we wou ld get in the habit of seeking God's wisdom first thing- before we try anything else. This is why He wants us to seek Him- He has all we need.
