Title: Shari is having Surgery Friday
ThunderingHerd - February 20, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)
I would like to ask you guys and gals to please keep Shari and the rest of us in your prayers. She is going to have Tonsilectomy and Septoplasty done on Friday. They said that it would be a painful recovery for her. Pray for her that it will not be as hard on her as we have imagined and that she will not have any complications.

I'll be praying Steve!! I read that it was harder on adults than on kids, but I didn't really know what I was getting into either. I am hoping that for both of us the results will be worth the pain!
My helpful hints...water water and more water, no matter how it kills you to swallow. And take all the high powered meds they give you...don't be a hero!!!!...and take them on an empty stomach!!!!! (or all that jello will come right back up, lol)... and make sure there is someone close by to drive the car or whatever you need.
Oh, and take all the time off they suggest. You'll need it.
Ice packs on your neck...and nose...are helpful. And don't try anything slightly sweet till that anesthetic is out of your system...it will go the way of the jello, lol...
Steve, I hope you plan to wait on her hand and foot! She deserves it! Hope the septoplasty goes well too...I just had cauterization of the vessels there, my septum was fine.
I'll be praying...heading into day 6 post-op and it's not pretty.

tomorrow is the big day...we were supposed to be there at 9am but they called and told us to be there at 8am and that they were going to move her up in the lineup. Pray for us to get through tomorrow and the next several days. Mosty for her so she does not hurt too bad. I know it is going to be rough for her and that is what hurts me the most. I'd rather it be me instead

We just now got home. She seems to be doing really well so far. You can tell she is miserable though. She said her nose hurts worse than her throat, but I am sure the anesthesia has not worn off yet totally. Keep praying. I just hate that she is in pain.
How are you doing now Loraine? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
CanChik - February 22, 2008 09:33 PM (GMT)
HI Steve...I'm starting to improve, tho had a few rough moments today still. There is a light at the end of the tunnel...I think...I hope!!!
Make sure she is lying with her head elevated, that will help to keep away the feeling that she is choking to death. And nothing sweet...or with milk products...till after the anesthetic wears off. Ice chips rock!!!
Try to keep away from anything red or brown or acidic (citrus or tomato)...gingerale really will help the nausea but make sure it's flat first or the carbination will kill her!
I'm sure your doc told you most of this, and right now, this first 24 hours, you just need to have ice packs, ice chips, and keep your eye on her that she is breathing ok.
All the best to you both Steve, and I'll continue to pray! This time next week she will feel a whole lot better!
