GARY BULLOCK MOVES TO LEAD POSITION;
SCOTT BAKER JOINS AS TENOR
For Immediate Release from Gerald Williams (9/02/2006)
The Melody Boys Quartet has many friends for which we are very grateful, so I would like to bring you up to date with what is happening with the Quartet.
After much thought and prayerful planning, Gary Bullock, who has done a marvelous job as our first tenor for the past year and a half, will be moving into the lead vocal position for TMBQ. He has a wonderful quality voice for the lead range as well, and in my opinion, will be a remarkable lead singer.
The newest member of TMBQ, Scott Baker, is now the first tenor. Scott was recently offered three other opportunities to sing with prominent groups in our field; however, he chose TMBQ. Scott has been singing since grade school, beginning his vocal training in the 8th grade with Indiana University Professor Pat Menderman. Scott has attended the Stamps-Baxter School of Music and comes highly recommended by Ben Speer.
Scott and his wife Stacey have four children. It is our privilege to welcome Scott and his family into The Melody Boys Quartet.
DONNIE HOOTEN LEAVES TMBQ
For Immediate Release from Gerald Williams (9/02/2006)
It is with regret that I am announcing Donnie Hooten will no longer be with the Melody Boys Quartet. Donnie asked to meet with me recently, sharing that he realizes that there are times when it doesn’t matter how well you sing, things just do not come together as they must for a quartet to continue with the sound it has been known for so many years.
Donnie has a tremendous voice, and I know there is a place in SGM for this fine talent to be heard. He will be greatly missed. TMBQ wishes for Donnie the very best!
I felt at the GOGR that Donnie for whatever reason did not really fit in well with the Melody Boys sound. I'm not enough of a musical authority to understand why but I was not surprised to learn that he is moving on. I think Gary will do a good job on lead and look forward to hearing the new lineup.
At least there is one constant with the Melody Boys in that they have a great bass singer.
Can't wait to hear the new group. I was told they did acapella "Pray" at NQC and blew the place away!
I hope Gayla (Miss Hidee/Tattoo/Texas) will give us a report soon.
