Jeremiah 31:3- "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee."
I know that we have just finished the Easter season, the time of year in which we as Christians celebrate and remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many sermons and devotions during this time are written from the resurrection passages in the Gospels or from other Scripture passages specifically mentioning the resurrection. However, I was drawn to a different verse that still captures what I think is the essence of the Easter season.
So, what is the "essence of Easter" that is found in this verse? Simply put, it is the love of Christ. He says in this verse that He has loved us with an "everlasting love". A simple word study on the word "everlasting" will show that it refers to infinity past and/or infinity future. (Note the phrase "everlasting to everlasting" in Psalm 90:2.) What this reveals to us is that Jesus has always loved us and always will love us! And it was this great love that caused Him to die and rise again to pay for the sins of mankind and to provide a means by which we could get to Heaven. It was this great love that caused Him to offer this free gift of salvation to all who would accept it. He knew there was no way that we could earn it on our own.
Yes, Christ's infinite love is the essence of the Easter season. O what great love the Father has lavished upon us! Happy Easter everyone!
thanks Pastor Chad for the wonderful reminder that OUR LORD'S LOVE IS Everlasting... and will never end. Paise GOD FOR THIS
