The Homeland Harmony Quartet and the Harmoneers were both based in Atlanta for most of their careers. Five men sang in both of these groups. Who were they?

Fred C. Maples
Bobby Strickland
Shorty Bradford
A D Soward

Rich, you have two correct.

I don't believe Fred C. Maples or Bobby Strickland ever sang with the Homeland Harmony Quartet.

VirginiaJoe - May 4, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
I'll guess Leroy Abernathy.

RichL - May 4, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
I did my checking real fast before nap time and I was wrong about Strickland but from Murray's encyclopedia of SGM on page 61 it reads tha the name Homeland Harmony Qt. was first use in connection with a singing group in 1935 that included Otis Mcoy, Doyle Blackwood, Fred C. Maples and B.C. Robinson. and that they took the name from an early songbook and that Otis McCoy said it was Alphus LeFevres idea.

Don't know if this is accurate or not.

Jetrec - May 4, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
Jimi Hall & Fred Elrod

I'll guess Leroy Abernathy.

Hmm . . . this one could be close to correct. Although Lee Roy was never a member of the Harmoneers, he did recorded a record with them. He did the recetation on "God Knows".

:smacking:

I wrote that article, Rich! It's amazing what you forget when you get older.

I had never really considered Fred C. to be a member of the Homeland Harmony, but I suppose he did have some early ties to the group.

He wasn't listed on the "Homeland Harmony Collection" list of group members, but I'll have to say you're correct and I was wrong!

JohnCBoy - May 4, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
So, now there are six and you have named five of them. Jetrec was right about Fred Elrod and Jimi Hall.

Correct answers are:
Fred Elrod
Jimi Hall
Fred C. Maples
Shorty Bradford
A.D. Soward

There is one name missing. Anybody want to guess?

Jetrec - May 4, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
Troy Lumpkin?

JohnCBoy - May 4, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
No, Jeff. Troy wasn't a member of the Homeland Harmony.

VirginiaJoe - May 5, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
I'll guess Bobby Shaw.

JohnCBoy - May 5, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
Ya know, Joe, Bob Shaw did sing with both groups. He even recorded a video with the Harmoneers in their later years. So, you're right. That's another one I had forgotten.

There's one more. He was a lead singer . . . .

KLB - May 5, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
Paul Stringfellow?

JohnCBoy - May 5, 2008 05:37 AM (GMT)
Paul Stringfellow is correct.
