Title: Dottie Rambo Songs You Love

Kattie E - May 12, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
With the tragic death of Southern Gospel music icon, Dottie Rambo, so many songs come to mind. The songs she has written and performed. Her songs that others have recorded.

On the "Southern Styles Show" we talked with her manager, Larry Ferguson, and I had to do research for the interview. I remember reading Dottie's bio and being so touched. She had to leave her home when she was 12 years old because she wanted to sing gospel music and her father wouldn't approve of it.

I have been thinking of so many of her songs today and the first one that came to mind was "Mama Teaching Angels How to Sing".

Rejoice Dottie, you have made it home.

The song that I associate the most with Dottie is "He Looked Beyond My Faults". I love that song and her talent. It is a tragedy.

Steve, if you've never read the story behind that song, you need to. She wrote it for her brother who was dying and she led him back to GOD before he died if I remember correctly.

I remember Dottie when they were still in the UPC organization. They were Dottie, Buck and Joe back then and she had this beautiful long hair that she wore up, with one long curl hanging over one shoulder. All the little Pentecostal girls wanted a "Dottie curl" like hers....she's been one very special anointed vessel for GOD in her lifetime. I personally think she's written the very best of the best songs for SGM ever written. I don't know that I could pick a favorite, but I do love "I Go To The ROCK".

I agree. I believe Dottie has written some of our greatest songs.........
In addition to the ones already mentioned, I love.....

Come Spring
Build My Mansion (Next Door To Jesus)
If That Isn't Love
I've Never Been This Homesick Before
Sheltered In The Arms Of God

Some of my favorite Dottie Rambo songs are "Tears Will Never Stain the Streets of That City," "I've Never Been This Homesick Before," "We Shall Behold Him," "Is There Anything I Can Do For You," "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need," "Sheltered in the Arms of God," "Too Much to Gain to Lose," "Behold the Lamb, "He Ain't Never Done Me Nothin' but Good." I took time to listen to Dottie's album "The Soul of Me" last night. Dottie was a remarkable song writer and singer who was proficient in more than just Southern Gospel. She wrote anthems, contemporary Christian music, black gospel, and inspirational songs.

I feel as though a close member of my family has died. I do look forward to singing around the throne with Dottie. She's made it home. For those of us left behind we can should certainly be able to say, "Lord, I've Never Been This Homesick Before."

I had forgotten about "I Will Glory In The Cross". Thanks Lor, for reminding me....I would have to say that every song listed in the above posts is my fave. There's just no way to pick one out. They were all such anointed songs absolutely given by GOD. All songs aren't given by inspiration, but hers were and that's what makes the difference. Mercy, we will miss her, won't we?

I forgot to add "Remind Me, Dear Lord." This is one of my all time favorite gospel songs.
