ANSWER: Nothing.
It’s just a universal distress signal, but the letters are not representative of any actual words. (S.O.S. was chosen as the universal distress signal by the International Radio Telegraph Convention of July 1908. This combination of letters, three dots followed by three dashes followed by three dots, was easy to send and easily recognized. The letters themselves, however, are meaningless… regardless of what you've been told. S.O.S. does not stand for Save Our Souls, Save Our Ship or any other phrase. The first mention of this false meaning is in reference to the Titanic sinking in 1912, which may account for the "Save Our Ship" story being so wide spread. But it's totally false.
