Description: Are distinct appearances deceiving?

What members of the Cathedral Quartet actually appeared on this recording?

For extra credit, who was the producer?

I'm guessing Vic Clay is the producer. I can't recall. I also thought the guys pictured were who appeared on there, but I'll guess Talley was on some cuts although I don't remember offhand. I know Funderburk was on at least some. I halfway heard this once a while back when I found it years ago. I never cared much for a lot of the Eternal and other table projects, so I would have to listen again.

So, Q'man, is this a qualified "I don't know"?

:rollinglaughing:

By the way, Vic Clay is correct.

I listened and I don't hear anything that sounds like Tally but there's a couple of songs that I'm not sure it's Danny so it may be that they slipped in some previous work with Trimble and those other guys that chose to leave and form their own group. But as you said before I guess this is an I don't know.

I always thought that the fellows on that record were the ones pictured. I bought the album off the group just after Danny joined them. At least a couple of the songs were ones that Danny had sang with the Singing Americans. Possibly somone other than Roger played piano on the sessions.

Funderburk, Payne, Trammell, Younce, Bennett & Talley to the best of my knowledg.

I`m going to say Payne, Younce, Trammell.Funderburk and Bennett.-Is this a trick question John?

Yes, James, this is a trick question. The performers pictured on the LP cover are the same ones on the record . . .

Just have to keep you folks on your toes!

It's a matter of personal taste, but always preferred the overall full and rich sound that (I assume) Vic Clay was responsible for as producer. In fact, Clay produced a few of the Cat's Canaan LP's as memory serves, which all also had that Vic Clay sound.

I think Vic did the Cat's 1975 Canaan "For Keeps" LP, which sounds like the Eternal label recordings.

On the other side, 1974's "Our Statue Of Liberty" and 1976's "Easy On The Ears, Heavy On The Heart" Canaan discs were eq'ed badly...dull and muted. (I hope Vic didn't do those projects or there goes my point). But then again, about then Canaan's southern gospel records began to be badly engineered...dull, muted and lifeless sound. Maybe that's why the Kingsmen jumped ship to Heartwarming and the Cats later on moved to Riversong...both Benson labels.

So, I did say I had always thought that it was the guys pictured and that Talley was the only likely candidate if there were someone else. (Due to his preceding Danny), unless of course they had a sub or had older material on there. :P
