PqPublicist - August 13, 2006 01:10 AM (GMT)
The Providentials- announced plans for the 4th Annual Providentials Homecoming with special guests the Dixie Echoes and Chosen on Saturday October 21, 2006 beginning at 6:30 P.M. at the spacious Southwest Mississippi Community College Auditorium in Summit, Mississippi. Southern Gospel Music trio, Chosen from Liberty, Mississippi will kick off the evening singing at 6:30. The Providentials Quartet of McComb, Mississippi will take the singing stage next followed by the Dixie Echoes from Pensacola, Florida. Lead singer and spokesmen for the Providentials, Joe Young explained, “We count it an honor and privilege to have Chosen and the Dixie Echoes at the Providentials 4th Annual Homecoming.” Young continued, “When Dale Shelnut started the Dixie Echoes in 1960 no one had ever heard a southern gospel group with such a commanding lead singer, especially on an old time spiritual. Their popularity has grown to enormous proportions over the years through their appearances on the Gospel Singing Jubilee and top forty songs like “Just a Rose Will Do” and “How Great Thou Art”. The Dixie Echoes currently consists of Randy Shelnut (Emcee and Lead), Tracy Crouch (bass), Dallas Rogers (Tenor), Scoot Shelnut (Baritone) and Stewart Varnado (piano) from nearby Franklinton, Louisiana. “The live presentation, the two microphone demonstration, and their style of music harkens to an earlier genre of quartet singing. We decided when we began our homecoming concerts that we wanted to begin and carry on the tradition of the classic male quartet. The Dixie Echoes fit the bill,” said Young The southern gospel music trio Chosen from Liberty, Mississippi has increased their presence nationally after signing with Millennium Records and New City Talent. The trio consists of singers Mark Jackson, Theresa Jackson, and Christy Morris. “Mark Jackson has been blessed with tremendous songwriting ability, Theresa is a powerful prayer warrior, and Christy is a singer’s singer.” referenced Young. The Providentials Quartet based in McComb, Mississippi began in 1999 and currently consists of Joe Young (lead), Lane Reed (baritone), C. O. Stegall (bass), Tim Johnson (tenor), and Reggie Duncan (road manager and sound engineer). The Providentials will release “So You Get the Glory” to Southern Gospel Radio on the August, 2006 Sonrise Christian Voices compilation disc. This release is the second single off the Providentials project “When God Moves”.
