What the the last Oak Ridge Boys album that included Smitty Gatlin singing lead with the quartet?

(I am looking for a regular release and not a complilation album for the answer to this question.)

I think River of Life had some cuts with Smitty - although he wasn't pictured on the cover.

That's the answer I was looking for, Dean.

Although Duane Allen is pictured on the cover, Smitty Gatlin is on several of the album cuts.

The last recording with Smitty on the cover was "The Solid Gospel Sound of the Oak Ridge Quartet". At least I think that's right. They also did a recording on the Starday label that was released around the same year as the "Solid Gospel" recording.

Another quirk about this LP cover. . . if you'll look at Willie Wynn's hand. . . it's behind his back. No, he's not hiding a smoke! He had injured his finger, and it was bandaged up, so he was hiding it in the photograph.

. . . more than you ever wanted to know about that album, huh?

:beach: Inquiring minds really like to know these things John. Those tidbits of information are very interesting.

I would have guessed "The oak Ridge Boys Sing For You", and been wrong again, but congrats to the winner.

Great question John. Solid Gospel and River of Life were great albums I think these camr out in 1966. The Oaks were as good as anyone during the mid 60's The cover of Solid Gospel is unique. Anyone know the story about the picture?
Also, I think the best bass singing Herman Harper ever did was his bass part on Farther Along on the River of Life album. Great memories!

!

I don't know where the Solid Gospel cover photo was taken. The "mountain" on which the boys are standing appears to be made of slate. Maybe there is a quarry somewhere near Nashville.

The album has some super Nashville musicians of the 60s including on guitar singer-actor-songwriter Jerry Reed and Fred Carter (Deanna's dad); Buddy Harmon on drums (he was on most of the Everly Bros recordings) and Junior Huskey on bass.
