Title: Tuesday trivia
Description: . . . they were with ED?

Hall of Fame bass singer Ed O'Neal has brought up a generation of gospel musicians. I recently found this old Dixie Melody Boys picture and thought you may have a good time identifying the members of this quartet.

Pianist...Eric Ollis

I think the harmonica player is Larry Delawder (sp?).

The young man on the left is Larry Delawder. I could be wrong on the first name but I think that's right. He was quite an entertainer. A boat load of talented individuals have been members of the Dixie Meldoy Boys thru the years.

:good job: Well, I didn't know them all, but I did know Ed (of course), Rodney, McCray, and Eric.

is it me or does derrick boyd look just a smidgen like jonathan wilburn in that pic?

Isn't this line-up the one Ed formed after the group gave up on the christian country format when they were referring to themseleves as the DMB Band. It seems I remember Ed saying in an interview on the Gospel Greats that the group went through some financial hard times in their season of christian country.
JohnCBoy - September 26, 2006 02:38 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure. I can't imagine that McCray was in that group. I think that was earlier in their career.
CanChik - September 26, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
That's right, Larry Delawder. I couldn't come up with that name for the life of me!
JCB, the Christian Country phase (City Lights was one of the albums) had Ed's son in it, not McRay.
JohnCBoy - September 26, 2006 03:04 PM (GMT)
PTL for moustacheoed folks that can set JCB on the right path.
I'm so glad you were here for us this morning, Chicky!

Wow. Finally ask a question I can answer and I overslept!
Good job, Miss Chick. :P

We saw the DMB a few weeks ago with the Dove Brothers.
They look good, sound good, and just are plain good. It was an excellent concert.

I knew this one! <smile>! I just did not get on the computer until late today!
I was just wondering if Ed has hired a full time lead singer yet? I meant to get into the auditorium at NQC and hear one of their "stands"; however, I never made it. Can someone fill me in on who Ed has hired?

Close ... A fellow by the name of Nathan Widener sang baritone in the "original re-formed" (wow, that's confusing) Dixie Melody Boys after they returned from christian country. There were also a couple of piano players pre-Eric.

I thought Nathan replaced Rodney? It was the other way around?

I'm as sure as can be relying on my memories of personal events that happened 15 years + ago while I was traveling with a certain quartet. That is to say, I'm not sure at all. :P

Ed has hired Bryan Walker to sing lead. Bryan's a great singer and has brought back some good energy into the group. I believe they're still in search of a piano player too.
