Title: Tuesday trivia
Description: Harvesters LPs

The Harvesters Quartet has been singing in North Carolina for over fifty years. Pictured below is one of their finest albums.

Earlier in the week, we had a trivia question about famous gospel and secular song writer Arthur Smith. Mr. Smith wrote half of the songs on this album. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he also played the guitar on this project.

Who were the members of the Harvesters Quartet singing on this album?

James Moore - October 24, 2006 01:12 PM (GMT)
Bill Hefner. Herschel Wooten, Buddy Parker, and Pat Patterson.

Hefner, Parker, Norman, Thacker & Clark....sounds like a law firm!

Singing: Bill Hefner, Buddy Parker, Don Norman, Jay Simmons, and Bob Thacker. On piano? Probably Jack Clark.

I was goingto revise my answer to include Jay Simmons but I see you took care of it. I played part of the LP and I remembered that it was the one with Jay Simmons AND Bob Thacker.

I thought ya'll would figure it out!

Jay left the Harvesters mid way through the recording of this album. He was featured on all of the Arthur Smith songs.

Where's Mark Stephens when you need him?

Mark Stephens - October 25, 2006 01:55 PM (GMT)
Getting ready for a trial. Someone has to protect the poor, the downtrodden, the helpless, and the shortsighted.

I THOUGHT this was the one with Jay on one side, but wasn't absolutely positive.

I think his time with the Harvesters was some of his and theirs, finest work.
