Where did the Blue Ridge Quartet call "home"?
CanChik - October 25, 2006 11:37 AM (GMT)
This is just a wild guess you understand, I could be way off...
Spartanburg, South Carolina?
I didn't know the Blue Ridge Mountains were in SC. Cool.

Chicky, I hate to tell you, but the name had nothing to do with the Blue Ridge Mountains.
According to one of their members, they got the name in Texas while working for the Stamps Music Company.
I don't think there are any Blue Ridge Mountains in Texas.
They were then sent to Raleigh, NC but there are no Blue Ridge Mountains in Raleigh, either.
;)

Maybe he did sing with the Johnson Sisters, kind of.
I don't think he was with the BRQ during any of the Caravan days but I don't know that for sure. I think he predated the Caravan.
Can anyone enlighten us?

Hamill left the Blue Ridge prior to the Caravan days. Knowing his track record, he'd probably been with 4 or 5 other groups by the time the Caravan formed!

The worst group Hamill ever sang with? I vote Kingsmen..

I'm from South Carolina, and I had always assumed that the Blue Ridge Quartet got their name from the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are not too far from Spartanburg. I just did a search to see whether there is a Blue Ridge in Texas and guess what? There is a small town with that name in Texas. It has been there since just after the Mexican War. They don't have any mountains, but they do have a low ridge that often appears to have a blue haze. They say that's where the town got its name. So, who knows, maybe the name did come from Texas.

If having the faith of a mustard seed can get rid of Mountains, Texans must have the most faith in the world.
There's places in Texas where you can see a dog run away from home for 5 days. :doggie:
