Philadelphia, MS: The Mississippi State Quartet Convention was recently held at the Neshoba County Coliseum in Philadelphia, attended by artists from across the great state of Mississippi. The MSQC hosted its second annual awards program during the three-day convention, held on October 19 through 21 st. Among those honored was Richton native JW Cooper, Jr., soloist and songwriter.
JW Cooper, Jr. received the 2006 MSQCA award for "Musician of the Year". JW was also one of the top nominees for "Songwriter of the Year". This is the second such award for the soloist, known for his country-flavoured ballads and unique, heart-touching lyrics. Commenting on the honor, JW said, "It was a huge blessing to be presented Musician of the Year and it humbles and inspires me. I am honored to be used of God in this calling. To accept the award with Randy present was awesome. Randy has been a tremendous inspiration, friend, and mentor."
The MSQCA was started approximately 7 years ago by Jason and Pamela Oxenrider of the group "The 'Riders" who currently record on Ricky Atkinson's Featherbed Records label. For more information on the Association, visit their website at www.msqca.com .
JW Cooper Jr. is currently represented by Rick Hendrix Company and recently released the new single "Didn't They Know" from his current CD, "Voice of Many Waters", to Gospel stations across America. To hear song samples and find scheduling information, click on
