Title: Christmas Cactus

CanChik - November 15, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)
Hi Folks...Any suggestions for the best care and handling of a Christmas Cactus?

Kattie E - November 15, 2006 05:01 AM (GMT)
cactus...doesn't need any water right?

has stickers...don't handle it..LOL

final analysis...stick it in a dark corner and forget about it

that was helpful, right?

:kekeke:

LOL...ummm...thanks Kattie...hehehe
I've already learned that the flowering ones do need light
I'm not sure about the water, because they aren't "typical" cacti
But thanks anyhow, lol....

Ummmm...anyone else???? :D

I'll ask my mom....I've heard her say, but can't remember the particulars....lol.....just hope she can remember.

Lorraine, my mom has a gorgeous Christmas cactus and has had it for years. What she does is she keeps it in a cool place. and in a room that is well lit but no direct sunlight. Cause direct sunlight can burn the leaves.

Water thoroughly when the top half of the soil in the pot feels dry to the touch. Discard the excess water, then do not water again until the top half becomes dry.

in the summer time you can put it outside, but make sure it is in a shaded area. I hope this will help you

Thanks Teresam! That should help. Course, I should have waited for your advice before I watered it again yesterday....oops....oh well....

I asked Martha, because she knows everything.....well, that's what she told me.
She told me the same thing that Teresa said. Her Mom had one and it always bloomed at Thanksgiving, instead of Christmas.

It's still alive, but because I overwatered it, the blooms fell off...but there are a lot more on the way, so there is still some hope...

*pondering*

well, if they bloom on Thanksgiving in US, when do they bloom in Canada? Do the Christmas cactus understand and bloom early for Canadian Thanksgiving? :kekeke:

It must miss it's home on the range. . . :horseride:

Kattie E - December 6, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
well, it would have been cool if it would have started singing like those fish on the wall do :whistling:

JohnCBoy - December 6, 2006 02:19 PM (GMT)
Wonder if Chicky could teach it to sing "Oh What a Savior"?

:you wish:

CanChik - December 7, 2006 11:29 AM (GMT)

It's singing, "Poor Jud is dead..."
