For an upcoming holiday, a host family is inviting their extended family in from another state. When all are there, they will have around 20 folks in their home.

One relative insists they must bring their st. bernard doggie. They cannot find kennel opening in their hometown. Keep in mind this is a very large breed and "drools".

Hostess does not want this relative to bring the doggie. She feels she is being put in an uncomfortable spot. If she says relative can't bring doggie, she feels family will be mad at her.

How would you handle the situation?

Insist that the dog stays outside...and offer to buy the chain if the back yard isn't fenced....or even if it is fenced to keep out of the garden.

Big dogs also knock things over with their big tails and you would hate to have to send a big replacement bill to the relatives :rolleyes:

Well..I couldn't have a dog in my house anyway because I am allergic...I would have to help them find a kennel in my area..lol

I'm with Donna....let them bring the dog, but tell them it has to stay outside....if there's no pen, get a good chain. St Bernards can handle the cold....lol

you know, the outside thing might sound good but I heard this dog bark a couple of times saturday night and trust me, if it would have been outside all the time, neighbors would have been complaining b/c it has as big of a bark as it is doggie

If they absolutely can't say no....... I'm with Denise...... look for a kennel in their area that the family can drop him off at when they get in town. If nothing is available, how about a motel that allows pets? Or how about giving him one room of the house to stay in, and his family can take turns keeping him company so he doesn't bark. They can eat in the room with him. That's a tough one.
