I know y'all aren't all from Texas...but I love history trivia about any state. I just happen to be from Texas and someone sent me this today. I thought you might enjoy reading. I would love to know more about other states if someone has some trivia.

Texas history.....

14. Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY, (known as Constitution of 1845 by Republic of Texas to enter the union) instead of by annexation. This allows the Texas flag to fly at the same height as the US flag, and may divide into 4 States.

21. The State animal is the Armadillo. (An interesting bit of trivia about the armadillo is they always have four babies! They have one egg, which splits into four, and they either have four males or four females. Well, I thought it was interesting anyway!)

22. The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston

23. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS - TEXAS STYLE

People here in Texas have troublewith all those "shalls" and "shall nots" in the Ten Commandments. Folks here just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks out in west Texas got together and translated the "King James" into "King
Ranch" language:

Ten Commandments, Cowboy Style.

Cowboy's Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie, Texas.

(1) Just one God.
(2) Put nothin' before God.
(3) Watch yer mouth.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.
(5) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
(6) No killin'.
(7) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(8) Don't take what ain't yers.
(9) No telling tales or gossipin'.
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's kinda plain an' simple don't ya think?

Y'all have a good Day, Ye hear now?

"THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU"

Oh...you know it has lots...like all those autographs and initials on the Natural Bridge...that was awesome to me. It was neat to see George Washington's initials carved there.

Where's Gayla???

Gayla - December 6, 2006 12:04 AM (GMT)
Here I am! Thank you Patti, that was tremendous! I knew most of it, but I did learn a few things. I am incredibly proud of being a Native Texan! We also have a pledge to our Texas Flag which the shcool children here in Irving recite after the American Flag pledge! Also, I have noticed that most Texan's can sing our State song, "Texas Our Texas" while people from most other states do not even seem to know the title of their state song. It is most certainly true..."There's a little bit of everything in Texas"! Thanks again Patti!

Anytime Gayla....there is something special about being a native Texan isn't there? Although people from every state probably feel the same about their home state too. I am truly glad to be a Texan.
