Title: Monday trivia
Description: a Stamps collection

In the 1970s, the Harvesters Quartet had an excellent quartet, just like they do today. However, being a "part time" group with excellent young singers proved to be bit of a challenge. At one time, Bob Thacker complained that "I'm never going to sing on another program with JD Sumner. Every time I get a decent singer, JD hires him for the Stamps!"

What two singers left the Harvesters to sing with the Stamps?

Tough question. I don't think any of the best known Stamps sang with the Harvesters. How about Richard Lee?

JohnCBoy - December 11, 2006 02:39 PM (GMT)
I didn't say they were "best known" Stamps! Heck, this is "trivia" with lots of "trivial" information.

However, Norm, you're correct. Richard Lee (pictured above) was one Harvester that joined the Stamps.

Phil Barker, also in the picture above, is one of Gayla's favorite tenors. He wasn't a member of the Stamps!

Yes, I was going to point out that Phil Barker is in this picture; however, I did not think he was ever a Stamp. Oh boy, how that man can evermore sing some tenor! I know he was probably best known with the Dixie Melody Boys and Singing Americans. However, I saw him the most with Crimson River and the Trailblazers.
Richard Lee and his incredibly talented brother, Steve, were also with Crimson River. However, I can not come up with the other Harvester who joined the Stamps.

It's interesting that Barker never sang with the Stamps. He should have!. When Warren left they should have hired Barker. Never thought Rick Strickland was the right choice. Several of us prevailed upon Hill and Enoch. Barker was ( and perhaps still is) a major league tenor.

Well, it's not Barker, but it IS a tenor singer.

Who is it?

Come on, we need more clues than that. Was it a high tenor, a low tenor, a squeaky tenor, a smooth tenor? How does he rate on the scale we were discussing a few weeks ago.

HELP. :D

Since there's no penalty for guessing I'll say Marlin Atchinson.

Norm - December 11, 2006 09:42 PM (GMT)
Just a guess -- Gary Buck?

Mark Stephens - December 11, 2006 09:45 PM (GMT)
Was it Richard Lee? He and his brother sang with the Harvesters during this time frame, but I don't know if he left the Harvesters to sing with the Stamps.

If this is right, Gayla kind of sort of got it first.

DISREGARD THE ABOVE. ALREADY GIVEN. I AM CONFUSED. :smacking:

JohnCBoy - December 11, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
Richard Lee is still correct.

Ya'll still haven't gotten the correct tenor singer. . . :(

Mark Stephens - December 11, 2006 11:45 PM (GMT)
Pat Brown was in both the Harvesters and the Stamps.

He then went on to become Governor of California. :rollinglaughing:

But I don't know if that is the same guy or the tenor you are so fond of.

JohnCBoy - December 12, 2006 01:00 AM (GMT)
Pat Brown is the answer I was looking for. I knew ya'll would come up with it!
