Title: NASCAR Trivia
Description: While we are waiting.....

VirginiaJoe - December 21, 2006 05:56 PM (GMT)
I have a trivia question for you........while we are waiting on the new season to begin. Give this a try. It's a two parter.........

Which NASCAR race track is the longest, in length? I'm talking about miles around the track, and not number of laps.

Which NASCAR race track is the shortest, in distance around the track?

pattipagewhite - December 23, 2006 03:19 PM (GMT)
I think....

The longest is Talledega with a track of 2.66 miles.

The shortest is Martinsville with a track of .526

VirginiaJoe - December 23, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
:good job: Way to go, Patti!! I thought sure someone would say "Bristol" for the shortest. :thanks: for playing.

VirginiaJoe - December 23, 2006 06:03 PM (GMT)
Next trivia question:

Which NASCAR race is sponsored by Allstate?

I almost did...there's not much difference...I think Bristol's is .533 or something like that.

Next trivia question:

Which NASCAR race is sponsored by Allstate?

The Brickyard 400

VirginiaJoe - December 23, 2006 10:40 PM (GMT)
Great, Patti!!! That race is at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and if it is full there are about 315,000 fans there.

Our resident NASCAR expert.... :red car:

pattipagewhite - January 1, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
:whistling: Anybody home? :red car:

VirginiaJoe - January 1, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Okay.........

Which long time NASCAR driver had a father named "Coocoo"?

Kattie E - January 1, 2007 08:33 PM (GMT)
is there a driver named "Cocoa Puffs"? :rollinglaughing:

VirginiaJoe - January 2, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
:babyha: Not that will admit it, Kattie. :rollinglaughing:

PqPublicist - January 2, 2007 01:49 AM (GMT)
Sterling Marlin

VirginiaJoe - January 2, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
That's right, PQ. Coocoo was also a race car driver, and Sterling's son is following in his dad and granddad's footsteps. I think his name is Steadman.

pattipagewhite - January 2, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
Well...I guess I slept through that one....how about another one Joe?

VirginiaJoe - January 2, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
Well........let's see.......

Until I can think of a better one..........Daytona is the first race of the season each year. They make a big spectacle of it, and have stuff going on for two weeks before finally having the big race.

What do they call the two weeks leading up to the Daytona 500?

pattipagewhite - January 2, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
Bike Week?

VirginiaJoe - January 3, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
No, it isn't Bike Week.........at least that isn't what I am looking for.

Kattie E - January 3, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
February 4 - 17th?

<--absolutely no help whatsoever :rollinglaughing:

VirginiaJoe - January 3, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
:rollinglaughing:

I guess I'd have to say that would be a valid answer, Kattie...............but, still not the one I want.

Think fast racing........lol.

(fill in the blank) is a name given to a two-week series of auto races held at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida in early February. The events lead up to and include the NASCAR Daytona 500.

Kattie E - January 3, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
how about Speed Weeks? :red car:

VirginiaJoe - January 3, 2007 08:32 PM (GMT)
Ding Ding Ding.........We have a winner!

Way to go, Kattie. :good job:

VirginiaJoe - January 4, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
All the races have major sponsors, who attach their names to the events. It is interesting, to me, to see all the various names of the races.

Four of the events, not necessarily the points races, are sponsored by beverage companies...........

Can you name the four? Give me the four beverages, not the events.

Donna - January 4, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
Budweiser
Pepsi
Coca-cola
Gatorade

VirginiaJoe - January 4, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
Donna!!! Welcome to the trivia forum.

That is correct.

Budweiser sponsors the first non-points race of the season, the Bud Shootout, the first weekend of Speed Weeks.

Gatorade sponsors the twin qualifying races that lead into the Daytona 500.

Coca Cola sponsors the first Charlotte race, the Coca Cola 600.

Pepsi sponsors the second Daytona race, the Pepsi 400, during the first week in July.

Thanks, Donna, for playing..........another beverage question is coming......lol.

Donna - January 4, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
:red car: woo hoo

VirginiaJoe - January 5, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
Following up the last beverage question with another one......hehehehe

This is a little harder, hopefully..........not that the one Donna answered was easy
......LOL.

There were five cars last season that had beverage sponsors on the hood.

Name the five beverages that sponsored individual cars..........and..........
name the five drivers of those cars.

PqPublicist - January 6, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
#2 - Miller Lite - Kurt Busch

#07 - Jack Daniel's - Clint Bowyer

#8 - Budweiser - Dale Earnhardt Jr.

#26 - Crown Royal - Jamie McMurray

#40 - Coors Light - David Stremme

VirginiaJoe - January 6, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)
You are absolutely correct, PQ.........

I made a slight mistake on that question, though. I said that there were five cars with beverage sponsors.............while, in reality........there were six!

Can you give me the sixth beverage sponsor, and the driver of that car?

VirginiaJoe - January 9, 2007 03:47 PM (GMT)
Still looking for that sixth car with a beverage sponsor.....

Kattie E - January 9, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
STP? :babyha:

VirginiaJoe - January 9, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
You are so funny. :rollinglaughing:

I would say, "good guess"......lol.

Okay, good guess.......but, incorrect, Kattie.

Try again...........one beverage (may taste a little like STP to some), one driver

Donna - January 10, 2007 05:26 AM (GMT)
QUOTE (Kattie E @ Jan 9 2007, 11:10 AM)
STP? :babyha:

:rollinglaughing:

Donna - January 10, 2007 05:32 AM (GMT)
Sterling Marlin.......... Ginn Clubs & Resorts ???

Donna - January 10, 2007 05:36 AM (GMT)
Kyle Petty.......Marathon/Wells Fargo/Tire Kingdom/Schwan's

Schwan's sells punch....lol

VirginiaJoe - January 10, 2007 05:45 AM (GMT)
Well...........the answer I was looking for, is......

Jim Beam, which sponsors Robby Gordon for most of his races, along with Menards and Harrahs.

I will give Donna credit for her answers..........and try to come up with a better question.....LOL.

pattipagewhite - January 10, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Well...I missed all the fun...I couldn't get this thread to open up for me yesterday....

VirginiaJoe - January 15, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
With the Daytona race, in February, being such an important race........all the teams go there in January to test.

With so many cars testing, NASCAR has developed an unique way to determine who can test the first week (this past week) and who can test the second week (this coming week)........to make sure all the cars aren't there at the same time.

What is the method that NASCAR uses to determine which cars test which week?

Donna - January 15, 2007 03:16 AM (GMT)
If I remember this right....and I am not too sure....but I think they go by the ranking they finished the following season and odd numbers go one week and even numbers go the next week.

VirginiaJoe - January 15, 2007 03:50 AM (GMT)
Good answer, Donna. You are correct!

All the cars that finished the season last year in first, third, fifth, seventh, etc
test one week, and all the cars that finished second, fourth, sixth, eighth, etc
test the other week.....just as you said.

Any car that is new for this year, like the Toyotas for instance, are placed in one week or the other, to balance the weeks up.

I didn't think this would be answered so quickly, so I have to come up with another question.....lol.

VirginiaJoe - January 17, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
With the death of Benny Parsons, it is only reasonable to have a trivia question with Benny in it.........

Benny Parsons won his only Winston Cup Championship in 1973, one of only four drivers to win championships during the 70's.

Who were the other three drivers to claim championships in that decade?

For extra credit (ght JCB), how many championships did each win?
