A lone figure sat in the middle of a floor, shapely legs crossed and posture straight as a board. Her arms rested close by her side, forearms placed lightly on top of her knees. Her currently blue-green hair was wrapped into two buns on her head, one on top of the other. Of course, that didn't stop some long strands from escaping and running down the smooth of her back.
If one were to look at her face, they would most likely be caught off-guard from the serenity it showed. Yet if one bothered to look deep enough, they might be able to see the pain etched in her from a painful past.
With her lightsaber a mere foot away, Meztli Papan was doing her daily meditation, oblivious to the world around her.
Oblivious, that is, until a tall Twi'lek burst into the meditation room, eyes wide and tenticles flying everywhere. She skidded to a stop in front of the meditative Falleen and exclaimed, "Meztli! Snap out of it, there's a big problem!"
Without opening an eye, Meztli opened her mouth slightly.
"Citlalmina Xipil...How many times have I told you how I dislike being interrupted during meditation?" she said, with an steel-like coldness.
Citlalmina made an impatient harumph sound, tossing her head back with a roll of her eyes. "I know I know, but this is really important! I've heard that New Alderaan is under attack!" She watched as Meztli stood up slowly, a frown now forming on Meztli's stunning face. Her eyes opened, and Citlalmina once again found herself momentarily awestruck by the deepness of the Falleen's eyes. Even after a few years working with her, she still couldn't get over it.
Quickly shaking herself out of her admiration, she said exasperatedly, "Well??"
Meztli dangled her arms by her sides and opened her left hand. The lightsaber on the floor rattled then flew into her hand. She swiftly closed her fingers around it and strapped it to her waist. She walked slowly over to the side of the room, boots clicking with each step on the polished floor, and scooped up her cape from the bench. She heard Citlalmina sigh in impatience again behind her, but didn't say anything.
Not bothering to turn around, Meztli said to Citlalmina, "Now, calmly tell me whats going on," while buttoning her cape to her shoulder armor.
Citlalmina took a deep breathe before saying, "I don't know many details, but from what I've heard the Empire is creating another Death Star and have attacked New Alderaan. The citizens are being imprisoned and killed, and I have yet to hear about the Queen."
Glancing at the Twi'lek from over her shoulder, Meztli said, "And you believe everything you hear?"
Citlalmina frowned and almost stomped her foot. Storming over to the curtained window, she yanked it open, letting light stream into the room. "No, not usually. But its hard not to believe my own eyes." She thrust a finger out the window and to the sky, and beyond. Her slender finger pointed to the nearby planet of New Alderaan, which seemed to be growing darker by the minute.
Meztli followed her finger with a blank expression, then stared for a moment at the silhouette of the planet.
"And besides...," she said, lowering her voice and her finger. "Can't you feel it?"
For a second, Meztli's eyes turned a sad gray, but she quickly turned them back to dark green. Turning away from the window, she crossed her arms and said, "There's nothing we can do from here." Her steps echoed through the room as she left Citlalmina alone by the window.
